With the move from a dedicated listserv to Google Groups, many people are wondering if there's an archive available of old CFCDev posts. There is, and you can find it here:

http://www.mail-archive.com/cfcdev@cfczone.org/

Future archive posts will be handled by Google Groups.

For several years now, the CFCDev mailing list has provided a forum for the discussion of ColdFusion Components and other OO topics. During that time, Ray and I have had our ups and downs with various listserv packages, virus scanners, and spam filters. With the recent move of CFLib, CFCZone, and the ColdFusionCookbook to new servers, it's time for us to shut down the old box. Rather than go through the process of setting up an entire new listserv on the new machine, with all the associated issues, we've decided to migrate the CFCDev list over to Google Groups.

Several other popular ColdFusion lists are currently hosted on Google Groups, and the reaction has generally been positive. Although there is an automatic way to migrate your current CFCDev subscription over to Google Groups, I don't want to start switching people without their consent. So, to make the migration as painless as possible, we will be sending invites to everyone currently subscribed to the CFCDev list, inviting them to make the switch. Although the CFCDev traffic has lightened over the past year, there's still a lot of valuable discussion that takes place on the list, and the signal to noise ratio can't be beat.

To all of you whom have made the list a great meeting place over the years, we say "thanks", and hope that you'll continue to support the list at it's new home. The new list is already up and running - it's just waiting for subscribers and posts. I'll be putting together the invitation email shortly, but if you want to go ahead and sign-up on your own, the new list is located here:

http://groups.google.com/group/cfcdev

The email address for the group is: cfcdev@googlegroups.com (note you must be subscribed to post, but not to read)

UPDATE: an archive of old postings pre-Google Groups can be found here:

Back in the day, you used to be able to subscribe to the CFCDev listserv in digest mode. When we first switched mail servers to MailEnable, we lost that capability as it wasn't supported. I'm happy to report that our latest upgrade to SmarterMail allows us to once again offer digest mode for subscribers.

The new digest mode is set to send the list digest once per day. Currently, it's set to strip attachments, but if I get enough requests, I may enable them. There really aren't that many that get posted to the list, so I'll let that feature be demand driven.

In any case, if you wish to subscribe to the CFCDev list in digest mode, you can do so from the CFCDev Subscription Page, or by sending an email to list@cfczone.org with the following in the BODY of the message:

subscribe cfcdev
Set mode digest cfcdev

Greeting CFCDev List Subscribers,

As you are probably aware by now, the CFCDev mailing list has had several problems over the past weel. I'd like to personally apologize for those of you who have been inconvenienced by multiple emails from the system. Our mail server had serious issues, and we ended up having to replace it with new software.

The good news is we now have a new/better mail server and listserv. The bad news is we had to totally recreate the CFCDev list and as such are going to require everyone to re-subscribe (rather than risk spamming everyone). If you do re-subscribe, please note that there may be TEMPORARY issues with the list while we bring everyone online. Please bear with us here. If you have issues, rather than emailing the list, please email me directly at rbils (at) amkor.com.

To re-subscribe to the list, do one of the following:

visit http://www.cfczone.org/listserv.cfm and fill out the subscribe form

OR

Send an email to list@cfczone.org Include the following in the BODY of the message:

subscribe cfcdev

If you have any questions, please email me. Thanks again for your patience and understanding as we restore the list.

First, let me sincerely apologize to all CFCDev subscribers for any email mishaps over the past week. We had a catastrophic crash of our mail server, and Ray and I have been working to get things back up and running. During the past week, the mail server basically went crazy and started sending out tons (and I mean tons) of duplicate messages. To anyone we may have inadvertantly spammed, I personally apologize.

That said, we have our new mail server in place and are working today to migrate the list subscribers, test the system, and once again restore service to the CFCDev list.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, or you just want to yell at me for filling your inbox full of rubish, fire away!

Ok, that was fast. The CFCDev mailing list is now working correctly. It looks like the spam filtering was ratched up a little too tightly and was blocking some valid messages. We'll be addressing this over the next few days as we find the right balance between valid messages and spam filtering.

Just a quick note that the CFCDev list is currently down due to an issue implementing our new Spam filtering system. We're currently working on the issue and hope to have it resolved shortly.
