Total Wine & More Makes Their Arizona Debut

My favorite Delaware liquor store, Total Wine & More (formerly Liquor World) recently opened an Arizona outpost in Glendale. While it's a bit of a hike for those of us in the East valley, the prices and selection more than make up for that. With over 8,000 different wines, 2,000 types of spirits and 1,000 + beers, they blow away any and all competition in the valley, including my other favorite BevMo.

I see a shopping trip ala Leaving Las Vegas in my near future.

I am Jack's Brain's Gravatar I went to the BevMo in Tempe and I was disappointed with their wine selection. I felt like the selection was similar to AZ Wine, except that BevMo carried supermarket varieties. Maybe I was just in a bad mood because it was Christmas time and the parking lot at Tempe Marketplace was infuriating.

Total Wine does sound better though.

Rob Brooks-Bilson's Gravatar I haven't been to the BevMo at Tempe Marketplace. I'm avoiding that place like the plague ;-)

One thing I did notice at BevMo is that their wine selection seems to rotate. For example, one of my favorite Pinot Noir producers is David Bruce. Sometimes they have his stuff, and other times not at all.

Total Wine is going to have a much larger variety, but it's definitely going to be a drive going all the way out to Glendale.

No Bevmo locations in the city yet, but they do have locations in Chandler, Tempe, Scottsdale, Goodyear, Glendale, and Peoria.

Sherry's Gravatar I've been to the new Total Wines store in Glendale. My take is that it is a superb store for their sale advertised, under $10 wines - I buy my everyday chardonnay there - but they have way too many of their mostly-unknown "winery direct" labels at all price points. So for my money, the best place for selection of premium, nationally-distributed/known wines is still AZ Wine Co. (stores in Scottsdale, Airpark and Carefree).

Artur | Phoenix Real Estate's Gravatar Great. From a selection of 1,000 beers there might be few good ones. I have been making trips to AJ at 67th Ave and the 101 for beer as the selection there is refined to mostly good beers.
